Glimpse of New Delhi

LOTUS TEMPLE

Location : Near Kalkaji in South of Delhi, the capital city of India.

Speciality : Open to all people from all faiths and is an ideal place for meditation and obtaining peace.

Best time to Visit : Through out the year.

Lotus Temple, New Delhi
Lotus Temple is located in the capital city of India, hence it is not impossible to reach this beautiful destination as Delhi is well-connected by air, rail and road to all the major cities of India and the world.

Imperial Hotel Lots of touts pressure visitors into organised tours or hiring a vehicle and guide. It is perfectly possible to get around yourself but hiring a driver may be less stressful than negotiating with dozens of taxis.

Khan market is excellent for browsing in bookshops and escaping the tourist whirl. Spice Route restaurant in the Imperial Hotel on Janpath is superb.

RED FORT

One of the most spectacular pieces of Mughal Architecture is the Lal Quila or the Red Fort. Built by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan between 1638 and 1648, the Red Fort has walls extending up to 2 kms. in length with the height varying from 18 mts. on the river side to 33 mts. on the city side.

INDIA GATE

Famous As : All India War Memorial
Designed By : Edwin Lutyens In 1921

Height : 42m

India Gate At the center of New Delhi stands the 42m high India Gate, an "Arc-de-Triomphe" like Archway in the middle of a crossroad. Almost similar to its French counterpart war memorial. It commemorates the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army during the First World War and bears the names of more than 13,516 British and Indian soldiers killed in the Northwestern Frontier in the Afghan war of 1919. The foundation stone was laid by His Royal Highness, the Duke of Connaught in 1921 and was designed by Edwin Lutyens.
